Cool!
Who doesn't like the idea of
playing Batman? This came out at the time of the 1989 movie with
Michael Keaton. Interesting enough, in the movie, and on the
title screen and packaging for this game we see Batman in a black
costume. In this game, however, Batman wears his classic blue and
gray costume from the comics. I like that.
This game is not a direct adaptation of the movie,
although you will
see things from the film...like the Batmobile. Batman fights
famous villains from the comics and special characters made for this
game. He can use a variety of different weapons, like in all
Batman media. The graphics are very well done, but everything is
much too dark. Not especially cheerful. The detail of the
backgrounds will make up for this, however. And the idea that
everything is dark for this game is appropriate for the concept of this
version of Batman.
I don't know if it matters or not, but this video
game does have really
good theme music. It's dark, moody, and the perfect backdrop for
running around as Batman.

This
game is one of my all-time top favorite
NES games! That's quite an accomplishment for two reasons.
One, I typically do not like sci-fi games, and two, I usually like
games based on already established characters (cartoons, superhero,
movie, etc.). But this game is so full of adventure and so
beautifully designed. Colorful, and you can make out everything
clearly! The characters are well-drawn and cute to look at.
But what I like is that you can do so many things. You can shoot
enemies from inside your vehicle or get out and shoot. Power ups
are frequent, but the chance of you running out of energy is still
quite possible. It's challenging, but not to the point where it's
incredibly hard to play. You need smarts to play this game, not
just luck. It's not just pushing buttons that defeats your
enemies, it's how you push them and definitely your dexterity when it
comes to the bosses. I also like that you can go into little
caves and the game turns to an overhead view where your cherubic little
hero runs around blasting enemies and collecting valuable items.
And for all the shooting, there is no graphic violence. Bad guys
just blip off the screen. This is a wonderful game for all ages
and I strongly recommend it to anyone who isn't a fan of sci-fi games.
