About This Character:  Sofia is a well-liked character, but the Battle Arena Toshinden games never really caught on like they should have.

The incredibly sexy, blonde Sofia is Russian-born.  She is a private detective and former KGB agent.  Sofia suffers from amnesia.  She entered the first Toshinden tournament to recover her past.  Sofia learned that her memory was tampered with by The Secret Society, the same group that organized the Toshinden tournament!

In the second tournament (Battle Arena Toshinden 2), Sofia learned that another fighter, Chaos, was suffering the same fate and entered the tournament in hopes to save him.  She was unsuccessful in saving Chaos, but managed to bring down the evil Secret Society.

Sofia learned soon after that she was being targeted by The Organization, who now organized the Toshinden tournament (Battle Arena Toshinden 3).  She joined this tournament to destroy The Organization.

The character of Sofia did not appear in Toshinden 4, a game only released in Japan and the PAL region (UK).  She did, however, appear in three of the Japan-only spin-offs.  Her weapon is a whip, called specifically the Krasnyi Burya (Russian for "Red Tempest").  Sofia is well-built, dresses scantily, and is often referred to as a dominatrix by gamers.

Game Appearances:

Battle Arena Toshinden
Battle Arena Toshinden 2
Battle Arena Toshinden 3
Battle Arena Nitoshinden [Japan-only spin-off]
Puzzle Arena Toshinden [Japan-only spin-off]
Toshinden Card Quest [Japan-only spin-off]

History:  In 1995, the same year Battle Arena Toshinden was released in America, Sofia was awarded "Best Sega Game Babe of 1995" by Electronic Gaming Monthly.  Battle Arena Toshinden was the very first 3-D weapons-based fighter game.  The series never took, though, because Tekken and other fighter games came out and became more popular.  The game inspired three sequels and other spin-offs, but it never did "catch the ring".  It's a shame, because the game had many interesting looking characters with great background stories.

Sofia probably had the best story potential of any character in the game.  She could be the lead character in a live-action film.  Another interesting fact is that since this was the first 3-D weapons-fighter game, Sofia is one of the very first weapon-wielding babes in video game history.  At least one of the first that had a starring role.  Other weapon-carrying babes came later and became much more popular, like Lara Croft and Bloodrayne, but Sofia set the standard.
