Season 1 (1963-1964)
Aired
from 1963 to 1970.
Original
cast was Bea Benaderet as Kate Bradley, Edgar Buchanan as Uncle Joe,
Jeannine Riley as Billie Jo Bradley, Pat Woodell as Bobbie Jo Bradley,
Linda Kaye as Betty Jo, Smiley Burnette as Charlie Pratt, and Rufe
Davis as Floyd Smoot.
Although
Frank Cady as Sam Drucker was in the show from the first episode, he
was not originally meant to be a regular. He became a regular,
though, after it was evident that the writers and audience liked him.
Linda
Kaye's real full name is Linda Kaye Henning. She was credited as
Linda Kaye so people wouldn't think creator Paul Henning was showing
favoritism. She DID have to audition like everyone else, and it
was really Bea Benaderet that urged Paul Henning to have his daughter
in this show. After a while, Linda Kaye was credited as Linda
Kaye Henning.
Kate's
dead husband is not mentioned very often, but we learn that his name is
Bill.
Season 2 (1964-1965):
Dog
did not appear until Season 2. He was the dog who would
ultimately become Benji in the first Benji movie years later. His
real name was Higgins and his trainer was the famous Frank Inn.
In the show, he was simply called "Dog".
The
first two seasons of the show were in black and white. Beginning
with Season 3, the show was in color.
