Bucky Beaver: Bucky Beaver is the cute little hero of
Bristol-Myers Ipana Toothpaste commercials. In each commercial,
Bucky was shown with a different occupation. His nemesis in each
commercial was the big, oafish villain Decay Germ. Decay had a
pear-shaped body with thinning hair and a permanent scowl. Bucky
Beaver would always knock Decay Germ over with an oversized tube of
Ipana Toothpaste.
Ipana Toothpaste was introduced in 1915. It
had its greatest popularity in the 1940s and 1950s. It was during
the 1950s that Bucky Beaver became the company mascot. The
popularity of Ipana dwindled down considerably by the early 1970s and
was taken off the market in the U.S.A., although it was continued to be
sold elsewhere. In 2005, Ipana was brought back into America, but
as of yet (2008) it has failed to make a big impact. Amazingly,
it is the leading toothpaste in Turkey.
Bucky's jingle was "Brusha, brusha, brusha...get the
new Ipana...Brusha, brusha, brusha...it's dandy for your teeth!"
