Opus is the most popular character from the comic strip, "Bloom County". He was later transferred into that strip's numerous spinoff strips. Amazingly enough, he was not originally intended to be the major character of Bloom County, as the strip featured an ensemble cast of characters. The strip was even named after the boy called Milo Bloom. But Opus became such a fan favorite and was so easily marketable that he did take over the strip. I like Opus the best of all the characters in that strip, too.
