Words From The Webmaster:

July was quite a month!  There were a few "surprise" items I wanted to mention this month, but I got so busy that I'm not ready to announce them yet!  I think you'll agree, though, that there is plenty enough news to tide you over until next month's newsletter.

I've been asked by some people, "Where are the Gayle Caldwell updates?"  They ARE coming, and it's not an oversight.  A part of the delay is that it's still hard for me to believe she's gone.  Gayle was a good friend, and it's difficult to talk about her in the past tense.  Another part is that I've been so busy with other projects that I haven't gotten around to giving her updates the full attention they deserve.  I'll be scanning new images, adding new pages...making lots of changes.  Stay tuned, Gayle fans!  I want to share pictures of personal items that I had her autograph, which are actually the last things she ever autographed.  I'll also be sharing lots of other bits and pieces of Gayle information.

Believe it or not, I brought back the History Department!  Well, actually, there never was a "History" Department before.  There was an American History Department, and a World History Department.  I simply combined the two Departments into one.  My goal with the History Department is what my mission has always been when it comes to presenting history:  Short, interesting facts that grab your attention.  My major in college was History Education, and I've loved history since I was little.  I am one of the few people that can make it very exciting for people.  Students loved my lectures.

It's not hard for me to make history interesting, because it IS interesting.  Think of history as the biggest, most expensive movie ever!  It has action, adventure, comedy, drama, horror, suspense...all of that and much more!  We had one war that was so great, World War I, that it even got its own sequel!  And there are some people out there who want to make it a trilogy.

History is the greatest ongoing saga.  It's better than James Bond, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, or Star Wars.  Why?  Because it's real.  It hits close to home.  History isn't pretend, or based loosely on real-life events.  History is what it is.  For better or worse, we have to deal with it.  We learn from history to prepare ourselves for the future.  Today, society is ignorant of history, and we're making the same mistakes that were made 40 years ago.  But it's never too late to look back and correct ourselves.  I hope you enjoy the History Department for it's entertainment and educational values.

The other new Department I created for this month is Trading Cards.  Didn't expect that one, did you?  Neither did I.  I have many different collections.  Trading cards is one of them.  I'm not a geek about it.  I pick these up wherever I find them.  If I like how they look, I keep them.  The ones I don't like, I get rid of.  And I NEVER pay top dollar for any card in my collection.  I truly do have fun with it.  I'll be showing off all different kinds of trading cards.  Bet you never realized there were so many different types.

I also made updates to some of the already-existing Departments.  It's worth a look!

Comics:
VISIT THIS DEPARTMENT!

I like to let people know that comics, at least the ones I talk about, are more than just superheroes.  "Priority: White Heat", which I've added for this month, is about a sexy woman spy.  "The Man in Black", also new for this month, are tales from the mysterious figure we know by many names:  Death, Fate, Luck.  He's not a superhero or a horror figure.  He just presents stories about people and his involvement with their lives.  Often humorous, and always poignant, "The Man in Black" is one of the most original ideas to have ever appeared in comics.  I also love the comic books based on funny cartoon characters, like "MGM's Mouse Musketeers" and "MGM's Spike & Tyke", based on the classic Tom & Jerry cartoons!  Look around the Comic Books area of this Department and find many different kinds of comics including:  Action, Comedy, Funny Animal, Horror, Movie, Non-Fiction, Sci-Fi, Television, Western, and more!

History: VISIT THIS DEPARTMENT!

NEW DEPARTMENT!  It's finally back, folks!  Only this time, I've put American History and World History together.  It's really two Departments in one.  There will be LOTS of room for expansion.  This is a special Department for me.  When Polar Blair's Den debuted as a small-town newspaper column back in 1997, it was based primarily on history facts.  PBD later morphed into what has become known primarily as an entertainment website.  But general history is the real root of Polar Blair's Den.  I'll be building this Department into something very nice in the months ahead.  Hope you enjoy what I have so far!

I've got some big surprises coming up.  Besides that, I really plan to flesh out some of the already-existing Departments.  I'll be adding lots of little things here and there.  Polar Blair's Den is in the process of moving onto "new frontiers".  I've been building PBD as a business as well as a much bigger, more informative website.  Things are getting interesting, and I'll definitely keep you in the loop.
