Words From The Webmaster:

Gayle Caldwell's sudden departure was more than a little difficult for me to handle.  It took awhile to decide on how best to honor her memory.  Gayle loved animals.  She was vegan, loved cats and dogs, even raccoons!  The welfare of animals was of great concern to her.  I remembered Best Friends, an organization I've admired for years.  I KNOW she would have loved to contribute to this animal society, and that it was money well spent.  I'm happy to have made Best Friends my last, great gift to Gayle Caldwell.  Please visit the Best Friends website at www.bestfriends.org.

I did a lot more with the Comics Department this month than I ever thought I would.  I love comics, and they've always been one of my greatest passions.  I've read Shakespeare, Chaucer, and Dickins, and I fully grasp ALL of it, but I can truthfully say that none of it has affected me as much as the comics I've read going back to the 1880s and as current as the early 1990s.  If you want to know more about people's attitudes, social issues, or just basic history, go back in time and read any comic book or comic strip.  One great thing about cartoonists of any era is that they don't hold back.  Comic humor was always meant to hit close to home, because that's how you get the greatest impact.  The same goes for comic action.  Artwork in comics is meant to drive the point.  Pictures truly do say a thousand words.  I've found that novels and epics are usually flowery, long-winded, and fail to fully express themselves.  Comics are brutally honest.  Because of that factor, people remember statements made in comics long before something that Sir Francis Bacon said in some book.  I hope you enjoy the young Comics Department.  More pictures and more entries will be added on a regular basis.

One of my major ambitions for this month was to have the Cartoons Department fully established.  I got a pretty good start on it, but it is by no means done.  No Department is ever really "done", because I like to expand as time goes on.  There will, however, be much more added to Cartoons in the next few months.  Fans of Mighty Mouse might like to know...HE'S BACK!

Video Games received quite a tune-up.  I like to talk about that subject because video games, in general, get bad press nowadays.  All the video games I talk about in Polar Blair's Den are suitable for all audiences.  I don't go for the gory, dirty stuff that we all see so heavily advertised in magazines and television.  Believe it or not, a lot of wonderful, kid-friendly games have been made in the last decade or so.  The Video Games Department is made as a guide for people who want to play really cool, but perfectly safe games, and not be ashamed to share these games with others.  Video games should entertain people, not warp them.

Last, but certainly not least, BIG NEWS!!!  Quinn O'Hara is doing her first-ever autograph show at:

Copper Cookies Dog Treats Store- UPDATED!  Healthy, homemade dog treats!  Fun shapes!  This product line started out of love for my dog, Copper.  As a concerned parent, I was shocked to find that manufactured dog treats often contain harmful ingredients (and things you can't pronounce!).  Copper Cookies Dog Treats contain only "real" ingredients.  And how cool is it to get dog treats in the shape of your favorite cartoon character or other unique designs?  Not only that, I know that my dog likes these treats better than the store-bought ones I used to buy for him.  These treats satisfy, and you don't have to give as many.

Quinn O'Hara Store- Rare photos of the steamy, redheaded actress from the 1960s-70s.  Autographed or Unsigned.
Quinn O'Hara Store 2- An even larger selection of rare photos of the 60s cutie.  Autographed or Unsigned.

Video Games: VISIT THIS DEPARTMENT!

Nintendo Game Boy: Batman-  NEW FEATURE!  Based on the classic "Batman" (1989) film where Batman battles The Joker.  Great Batman game for kids!

Nintendo Game Boy Advance-  NEW AREA!

OUTSTANDING CHARACTERS!-  NEW FEATURE!  This special feature spotlights some of history's greatest video game characters.  This month, I've included entries on Blair Dame, Pullum Purna, Sofia, Super Mario Bros., and Zola.

Sega Game Gear:  Streets of Rage 2-  NEW FEATURE!  This is an exciting "beat-'em-up" type game that's perfectly okay for kids to play.  There is no gore or anything else inappropriate.  It's just a really fun game about fighting criminal types in the city.

Sony Playstation:  Spider-Man-  NEW FEATURE!  A wonderful Spider-Man adventure that's easy to grasp and as entertaining for young as well as old.  This is a game worthy of the Spider-Man character, and kid-friendly!

Sony Playstation 2:  Power Rangers- Dino Thunder-  NEW FEATURE!  I hate the Power Rangers show, but really like this game.  Power Rangers translates better as a video game.  In this game, you can be the dinosaur robot of your choice and fight other giant-size enemies in different areas.  Really fun.  Reminds me of a Godzilla movie!

What's Next?:

I got a pretty good start on the Cartoons Department, so I'm going to develop that a bit more for next month.  The Comics Department was a lot of fun to build up, but there are two things I really want to do now.  One, I want to add cover scans and scans of actual comic panels to what I've already discussed.  Two, I want to bring back the Comic Strips portion of the Comics Department.

The American History Department is never far from my thoughts and will most likely be introduced next month.  I also want to add reviews of several DVDs in the Music Department.

These are all things to look for in July.  By now, I think the fact that I'm going to add things in the Actors, Movies, and Television Departments is a given.  The entertainment Departments are easily the most popular for Den visitors, so I like to play up to that.

THANKS FOR READING, AND KEEP COOL!
