Words From The Webmaster:

I worked on a lot of features for the already-established Departments because I didn't have enough time this month to create any new Departments.  However, I can promise you won't be disappointed.

For a long time I had been wanting to spotlight martial arts actors, and now I've done that with the special feature "Martial Arts Superstars" in the Actors/Actresses/Performers Department.  I'm no kung-fu nut.  I just think some of these guys are so good that they deserve special mention.  I believe everyone aspires to martial artists in one way or another, and the people I talk about are shining examples.  Each one is unique.  Bruce Lee, for example, clearly made martial arts a mainstream genre in films.  And Steven Seagal is the very first white guy that became primarily known for martial arts.  These people are standouts, and I hope to share them with you in a fun, yet factual manner.

In Movies, I have added the special feature "Sword-And-Sandal Movies".  Also referred to as "peplum", this film genre started with the Steve Reeves classic "Hercules", and continued into the late 1960s.  All of these movies were Italian productions, later dubbed into English and released in America.  Some of these films are quite good, and some...not so good.  But all of them were based upon mythology and/or gladiators from ancient Greece and Rome.  After this type of film burned itself out with movie audiences, it was replaced by the Italian-made westerns, called "spaghetti westerns".

I have a lot of new features for actors and movies.  This month I had a big focus on actors and actresses from the 1960s.  Most of the new movie features for this month also come from that time period.  The new music features, however, are a bit more varied.  Dr. John, Rick James, Twisted Sister...you can't get much more diverse than that.  And those aren't all I've worked on.

A new special feature in Music called "Music on DVD" was established.  It's always been hard to find good music on VHS or DVD.  Video manufacturers often like to stick us with less-than-acceptable products.  I'm building this guide as a public service to music lovers, like myself, who want to see great videos of our favorite music stars.

I hope you enjoy this month's updates!

Actors/Actresses/Performers: VISIT THIS DEPARTMENT!

Susy Andersen-  NEW FEATURE!  Absolute knockout blonde who had a prolific, yet short, film career from 1963-1969.

BLAIR'S GIRLS: FAVORITE FILM HEROINES- New entry on Tamar.

William Frawley-  New photos added!  Fred Mertz on TVs "I Love Lucy" and Uncle Bub on TVs "My Three Sons" among many other TV shows and films.

Joyce Jameson-  NEW FEATURE!  Funny blonde lady who starred in many TV shows and movies, usually as the comedic foil for man characters.

Dragon Lee-  NEW FEATURE!  The absolutely amazing martial arts superstar who followed in the footsteps of the legendary Bruce Lee.  Although not related by blood, this Korean martial artist looked and fought almost EXACTLY like the real Bruce Lee, and he made some highly entertaining movies along the way.

Una Merkel- NEW FEATURE!  She is one of the few Hollywood beauties who made the successful transition to "funny old lady" parts in her later years.

Robert Middleton- NEW FEATURE!  Tall, fat guy who played a lot of bad guys and funny antagonists in film and television.

MARTIAL ARTS SUPERSTARS-  NEW FEATURE!  As a special feature within the Actors/Actresses/Performers Department, "Martial Arts Superstars" is an easy directory of martial arts heavy-hitters I discuss in Polar Blair's Den.  Jackie Chan, Sonny Chiba, Bruce Lee, Dragon Lee, Bruce Li, Steven Seagal, Casanova Wong, Bolo Yeung, and more are spotlighted!

Mary Mitchell-  NEW FEATURE!  Excellent, but overlooked blonde beauty of 1960s TV and film.

Alvy Moore-  NEW FEATURE!  The hilarious, absent-minded Hank Kimball of TVs "Green Acres".

Quinn O'Hara-  Lots of new pages and pics on the lovely, redheaded actress.  Featuring material on her two "My Three Sons" episodes, "The Rogues", "The Saint", "Man From U.N.C.L.E.", and much more!  Also, go to www.facebook.com and join the Quinn O'Hara Official Fan Club.  It's free, and fun!

Eileen O'Neill- NEW FEATURE!  Beautiful brunette who worked steady from 1961-1970, and is most famous for her role as Sergeant Gloria Ames on TVs "Burke's Law".

Pamela Rodgers-  New photo from her appearance on TVs "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.".  Rare stuff, indeed.

Francine York- NEW FEATURE!  Absolutely outstanding, tall, statuesque brunette (sometimes redhead) who starred in lots of TV shows and movies.

Movies: VISIT THIS DEPARTMENT!

ASIAN MOVIES-  New entry on Dragon Lee's action-packed epic, "Dragon Lee vs. the 5 Brothers" (1978).  Also, new entry on the not-so-good "Samurai Reincarnation" (1981) starring Sonny Chiba.

Atlas in the Land of the Cyclops (1961)-  NEW FEATURE!  Maciste, a Herculean-type hero, must save a special baby from being eaten by the evil Cyclops monster!  Special appearance by Fabio, who played the baby in this movie, and was quite a phenomenon in the 1990s.

The Batwoman (1968)-  Mexican-made superheroine movie.  Light-hearted, funny, and sexy.  Starring Italian babe Maura Monti as Batwoman.

Bloodrayne (2005)- New photos and cast information!  Sexy, redheaded vampire-killer seeks revenge on her mother's killer.

Champ vs. Champ (1983)-  NEW FEATURE!  Dragon Lee stars in this stellar Hong Kong-made martial arts flick.  Great story, fight sequences, and filming!

Clue (1985)-  NEW FEATURE!  Funny murder mystery based on the popular board game with an all-star cast!

Colossus & the Amazon Queen (1960)-  NEW FEATURE!  A comedy set in the Ancient Greece period.  A musclebound hero, his shrimpy, conniving friend, and other men are "kidnapped" by extremely sexy Amazons and have the time of their lives!  It's like "Hercules" meets "Animal House"!

Colossus & the Headhunters (1960)-  NEW FEATURE!  A Maciste adventure where the legendary strongman takes on a tribe of headhunters.

Ghost Rider (2007)- New photos!  Superhero movie about the Devil's bounty hunter that turns on his master.

Hercules & the Black Pirate (1964)-  NEW FEATURE!  A swashbuckling, pirate-fighting Hercules!  Unique idea for a Hercules movie, and highly watchable.

Hercules & the Masked Rider (1964)-  NEW FEATURE!  The Masked Rider is actually the main character, and he's a hybrid between Zorro and Robin Hood.  A character called Hercules, not the Greek demigod, but a gypsy strongman, is a bit character.

Hercules Conquers Atlantis (1961)-  NEW FEATURE!  Incredible Hercules actor Reg Park stars as the hero in this lavishly-done comedy-adventure where the man of might battles the evil queen of Atlantis, and ultimately causes the city to plunge into the sea!

Hercules, Prisoner of Evil (1964)-  NEW FEATURE!  Actually an Ursus movie, but dubbed over as Hercules in the American version.  In this movie, "Hercules" is a barbarian who is transformed into a werewolf by a beautiful witch.  It's up to his brother Ilo to save the day!

Hercules the Avenger (1965)-  NEW FEATURE!  Reg Park's last Hercules film.  Hercules fights fake Hercules!

Mole Men Against the Son of Hercules (1961)-  NEW FEATURE!  Maciste, a Hercules-type character, takes on an evil society of underground-dwellers with the help of his musclebound black buddy Bangor.

SWORD-AND-SANDAL MOVIES-  NEW FEATURE!  Special feature of the Movies Department that focuses on the "sword-and-sandal" genre of movies, also called "peplum", that was big from 1958 to about 1967.  These were usually movies with Hercules or Hercules-type characters, or Gladiator flicks, all made in Italy and released in America with English dubbing.

Thor & the Amazon Women (1963)-  NEW FEATURE!  A hero named Thor battles evil Amazon women.  Most notable for performances by Susy Andersen as the beautiful heroine Tamar and Harry Baird as the bumbling black man Ubaratutu.

Vulcan, Son of Jupiter (1961)-  NEW FEATURE!  This is one of the coolest sword-and-sandal movies I've ever seen!  All the major characters are gods from Roman mythology.  Vulcan, God of Fire, is the hero, and he fights the evil Mars, God of War.  Great female roles come from Annie Gorassini as Venus, Goddess of Love and outrageous Cuban actress Bella Cortez as Etna.  There's always something happening and never a dull moment!

Music:
VISIT THIS DEPARTMENT!

Dr. John-  NEW FEATURE!  Famous for "Right Place, Wrong Time".  I talk a bit about the artist, with information on his DVD release of "Live at Montreux 1995".  Much more coming!

Rick James-  NEW FEATURE!  Famous for "Superfreak".  My personal thoughts on the artist, and information on the DVD release of "Super Freak Live 1982".

KISS-  New information on DVD releases, plus my thoughts on the group, and more!

MUSIC ON DVD-  NEW FEATURE!  This special feature of the Music Department will be a list of good DVDs that you can find of music artists.  I'll also tell you what DVD releases to avoid.  A great band doesn't necessarily mean all their DVDs will be good.  Sometimes video manufacturers release crappy performances, or give poor picture and sound quality.  Customers get stuck all the time.  This page will clue you in on what you might want to buy.

Twisted Sister-  NEW FEATURE!  Famous for "We're Not Gonna Take It".  My personal thoughts on the band, their videos, and information on DVD releases.

What's Next?:

Part of next month's updates is going to be a surprise.  Hopefully, a BIG surprise.  I can tell you that I plan on uploading new pictures for a lot of the new movie features I created this month.  I'm also going to add items to the Stores Department, so you will have even MORE fun stuff to buy.

I'm working on a Cartoons Department which should be back online next month.  It was always a very popular feature before the revamp, and I had more on Mighty Mouse than anyone else on the Net.  I talk about many, many different cartoons, primarily from the "real" era of cartoons (1930s-1950s).  However, I will have features on more recent cartoons like the adventure series' from Filmation, certain Hanna-Barbera cartoons, and so on.  I LOVE "Family Guy", but that feature will probably not make it into next month's additions.  It IS coming, though, at some point in the near future.

I will bring back more of the past features for the new Music Department, and I always like to add more to them along the way.  Right now I'm very interested in telling people about music on DVD, because good music DVDs are hard to find, and I'm tired of video manufacturers sticking us with garbage!  I'll tell you what's good, what to expect, and what to avoid.

A few small changes might come in the Cars and Television Departments by next month, but don't expect too much.  I am also working on bringing back the Animals Department by June.  Many visitors love reading the little-known facts about animals that I dig up.  This time around, the Animals Department will be bigger and better than ever, with a lot more pictures and tons of fun, new surprises.  Animal lovers, STAY TUNED!

Fun stuff is always happening at the Den!  That's why I call it "Your Party Place on the Internet!".  Polar Blair's Den is just a great big online party with lots of fun things to see and do.  I'd like to thank all of my newsletter subscribers and other website visitors for all the great support and for "getting into" all of this.  Special thanks to the friends of Polar Blair's Den who have found me on Facebook and made friend requests.  You people are great!
