Wow! What a month! I added four new departments:
Comics, Contact Polar Blair
Whipple, Stores, and Toys.
Where
"Contact" was simply reworked to look and function better, the other
three newbies were made from scratch. Toys, especially, was one
of the Den's weakest Departments in the past. It's a subject that
fascinates me plenty so I wanted to give it a real good start. It
WILL expand. Right now I'm highlighting certain action figures,
fast food toys, and stuffed animals.
On top of all THAT work, I still managed to add new things to the
already-existing
departments. Check out what I've done with:
I'd like to thank all of the people who recently contacted me with
their comments and those who have subscribed to this newsletter.
It means a lot to know that there are people out there who follow what
I do. That's why I wanted to share with you my exciting
news. Polar Blair's Den is going to be a business AND a knockout
website. For a long time I have been wanting to sell unique gifts
and collectibles through Polar Blair's Den. In addition, Polar
Blair's
Den will have shows where you can buy these interesting items live and
in person.
The shows will be held in various places in the state of Iowa for
awhile, but will spread to other areas in time. I will most
certainly keep you informed on all details of the Polar Blair's Den
shows and online stores.
I managed to squeeze in a few new surprises in this
Department for February. Check out the following features.
Adrienne
Barbeau- NEW FEATURE! One of moviedom's most famous,
bustiest, brunette starlets! Special focus on "Swamp Thing".
Dominique
Boschero- NEW FEATURE! Gorgeous French actress who played
femme fatales in everything from spy films, superhero films, and
Hercules films.
Elizabeth
Campbell- Tall, statuesque, redheaded American actress who
made her career predominately in Mexican films and disappeared entirely
after 1968. When I say "disappear" I mean TOTALLY vanished!
No one seems to know where she went or what she's done in life
since. If you know anything, please CONTACT ME.
NEW PHOTOS!
John Candy-
My favorite funnyman of all-time! It wasn't fat that made him
funny. He was such a great comedic actor that he could get laughs
if he was bone skinny. I wish he was still around, making
movies. Although that will never happen, I'm working hard to make
his tribute feature the best around. LOTS OF NEW SCTV PICS!
Robin Duke-
NEW FEATURE! Funny comic actress from "SCTV" and later "Saturday
Night Live". She really hit her stride with the latter, becoming
a funny female fixture in skits like Eddie Murphy's Velvet Jones
character.
Ava Fabian-
NEW FEATURE! This woman's a real knockout. Her claim to
fame is being a Playboy Playmate, but she's had a long string of parts
playing the "hot girl" in many TV shows and movies.
Joe
Flaherty- NEW FEATURE! Focusing this month on his "SCTV"
career with pics!
Patricia
Ford- NEW FEATURE! Luscious Hawaiian model, sometimes B-movie
starlet, who made a career out of her many Playboy magazine appearances
and bikini photos.
Lorna Gray-
Sexy, leggy brunette who played girls both good and bad with great
finesse. She played Captain America's girlfriend in his
first-ever film appearance, and villainess Arab beauty Vultura in the
legendary "Perils of Nyoka" serial.
John
Hemphill- NEW FEATURE! He's kind of the "forgotten" member of
"SCTV". He was on the show a lot, especially in the later
years. Despite being very funny and in a lot of the show's
funniest skits, he just didn't get the recognition he deserved.
Primarily because his name wasn't featured as a regular member of the
cast.
Eugene
Levy- NEW FEATURE! Brilliant comic actor, writer, and
producer. Heavy focus on "SCTV" with lots of pics!
Andrea
Martin- NEW FEATURE! Instantly likable in every role she
plays, Andrea Martin may have gotten her "start" in the sketch-comedy
series SCTV, but has managed to make every show she's been in her
own. Her range is incredible.
Irish McCalla-
What word better describes Irish McCalla than "AWESOME"? Tall,
blonde, statuesque. The first woman to play Sheena, Queen of the
Jungle. A model for pin-up artists, later an artist
herself. And just before she died in 2002, she was enjoying the
greatest popularity of her life since the 1950s. Find out all
about this "amazing amazon" with lots of pictures!
Rick
Moranis- NEW FEATURE! Talented comic actor who can take on
many goofy personas! Star of "SCTV", many movies from the 1980s,
and Barney Rubble in the 1994 "Flintstones" feature film.
Catherine
O'Hara- NEW FEATURE! One-half of the great female formula
from "SCTV"! Pretty redhead Catherine O'Hara, like her co-star
Andrea Martin, could morph into many different personas.
Harold
Ramis- NEW FEATURE! Although more famous as a comic writer
and producer, Harold Ramis has a bit of comic acting talent (remember
Egon from the Ghostbusters?). Focus this month is on "SCTV" with
pics!
Tony
Rosato- NEW FEATURE! Along with Robin Duke, Tony Rosato was
one of the "fill-in" cast members of "SCTV". For the short time
they were both on the show they did a good job, but they just weren't
on long enough to have the wide body of characters the rest of the cast
had. Fortunately, he had a very well-received role as a recurring
character on TV's "Relic Hunter" comedy-adventure series years later.
Linda Gaye
Scott- Blonde siren of the 1960s! More pics and more
information! A popular favorite among visitors of Polar Blair's
Den for her appearances in "The Green Hornet" TV show! There's
also more big things happening with Linda soon, so stay tuned!
Martin
Short- NEW FEATURE! "SCTV" cast member who has gone on to
have a rather successful career in movies and, of course, cable
television.
Dave
Thomas- No, not the "Wendy's" guy. This Dave Thomas is the
great comedic actor that played many funny, snappy personalities on
"SCTV" and has appeared in many other successful TV and film
projects. LOTS OF NEW "SCTV" PICS!

NEW DEPARTMENT! The Comics Department is really
two-in-one: Comic Books and Comic Strips. Comic Books is
what I concentrated on this month, and there's a lot to see! Find
out about interesting comic books and visit the comic book cover
gallery! Lots of covers from all genres of comics
including: funny animal, funny cartoon, movies, science-fiction,
superhero, TV, western, and more! Most of the comic books I'll
talk about come from the 1930s to 1980s, although a few comics of more
recent times will pop up here and there. Much more to come in the
months ahead!

NEW DEPARTMENT! Well, the name of the Department is
new. Basically, it's just a much better presentation of a contact
information page. I want to make contacting me easy and fun for
Polar Blair's Den visitors. I'm also working on a feature that
will showcase some of my best fan letters.
This isn't a Department of Polar Blair's Den. Rather,
it's an entirely separate, official website for Emmy Lou Candles.
I designed and maintain this website. If you love scented candle
products, please visit www.emmyloucandles.com.
Emmy Lou Candles sells 100% soy scented candle products!
Currently available:

New features, new additions...I felt like covering some more
obscure movies this last month. Check these out:
3 Dev Adam
(1973)- NEW FEATURE! Weird, Turkish-made superhero film starring
Captain America and Mexican wrestler Santo against an evil Spider-Man!
Asian Movies-
NEW ARTICLE on the original "The Streetfighter" (1974) film starring
martial-arts dynamo Sonny Chiba. Sonny fights like a savage
beast, and this movie can't be missed by any action fan.
The
Blade Master (1982)- NEW FEATURE! Interesting barbarian
fantasy-type movie. It's not the brainiest movie ever made, but
it is watchable. This movie became more popular years later when
it was panned on the "Mystery Science Theater 3000" TV show. That
episode was one of the most popular in the series' long run.
Fire
Monsters Against the Son of Hercules (1962)- NEW FEATURE! Reg
Lewis,
one of Mae West's musclebound hunks from her famous nightclub shows,
stars in this Hercules-type action-fantasy movie.
Flashman
(1967)- NEW FEATURE! Italian-made superhero film. Yes,
it's available in English. Surprisingly well-done and
entertaining superhero show.
Ghost
Rider (2007)- NEW FEATURE! Hollywood action star Nicolas Cage stars
as the flame-headed superhero Ghost Rider!
Goliath
& the Dragon (1960)- NEW FEATURE! Actually a Hercules
movie, but name of character and movie changed to avoid legal
trouble. One of the best Hercules movies ever made! You'll
never see Hercules any madder or more ferocious than he is in this
movie, and Broderick Crawford as the evil king presents an interesting
villain.
Horror Movies-
NEW ARTICLES on "Jeepers Creepers" (2001) and "Jeepers Creepers 2"
(2003). These are surprisingly interesting films featuring a
bat-like humanoid that stalks and eats people.
Nightveil
(2005)- NEW FEATURE! An extremely low-budget, live-action
superheroine movie based on the AC Comics character.
Swamp
Thing (1981)- NEW FEATURE! Surprisingly good superhero
feature film, despite the limited special effects quality of the
time. A scientist-turned-swamp-muck-monster exacts revenge on the
evil Dr. Arcane and his gang. Most famous for starring sexy
Adrienne Barbeau!
The
Witch's Curse (1962)- NEW FEATURE! An interesting Maciste
(Hercules-inspired character from films) movie where the
super-muscle-dude goes to Hell to find a witch to end an evil curse
cast upon a 17th century Scottish village.

NEW DEPARTMENT! You can actually buy cool stuff from
Polar Blair's Den,
online! If you're looking for unique gift items, Polar Blair's
Den is the place to shop. More will be added all the time so
visit regularly. Check out these stores:
Quinn O'Hara
Store- Rare photos of the steamy, redheaded actress from the
1960s-70s. Autographed or Unsigned. Quinn O'Hara
Store 2- An even larger selection of rare photos of the 60s
sexpot. Autographed or Unsigned.
I'm very happy with how the Television
Department turned out since the reconstruction. Still, there is
PLENTY of room for this area of Polar Blair's Den to expand.
Here's what I've been working on lately:
Black
Scorpion (2001)- This short-lived comedy superheroine series has
been featured in PBD for awhile. Now I'm concentrating more on
individual episode descriptions, cast info, and, of course,
pictures! Checkout the new additions.
Bucky Beaver-
NEW FEATURE! The cheerful little buck-toothed hero from Ipana
Toothpaste commercials has always been endearing. Learn more
about his 1950s adventures!
SCTV- By
popular demand, I've finally added a substantial amount of info and
pics to the SCTV feature of Polar Blair's Den! Right now, it's
mostly photo galleries of
the cast. A TON of photos. More is coming! Stay tuned!

NEW DEPARTMENT! In the past, Toys
was always one of PBD's weakest Departments. This time around, I
started from scratch. There's a lot of room to grow, but for this
month check out what I have on: Action Figures, Fast Food Toys,
and Stuffed Animals!

What's Next?:
It's been a productive month. Polar
Blair's Den isn't all I do...not by far. One of the many things
I'm involved with is my mother's candle business, Emmy Lou
Candles. I'm the "idea man" and marketing specialist; she's the
candle talent. We make all kinds of soy wax candles and have over
200 scents, with more on the way! For the month of January, 2009
we had two shows; one on January 10, the other on January 31.
These shows require a lot of preparation as they are big, splashy
events. We sell all kinds of scented items, as well as the
adorable "Angels From the Attic" stuffed animals and coloring books and
Gayle Caldwell's beautiful, full-length CD album
"All is One". These two January shows are Valentine's Day shows,
and our newest creation is wax-dipped roses. Beautiful,
artificial roses are dipped in rose-scented wax. They'll look and
smell WONDERFUL for a long time. For more information on Emmy Lou
Candles, visit www.emmyloucandles.com.
Our next candle show is on February 28 and will be a St. Patrick's Day
Show. It will also be our first "Spring" show with many flower
and fruit scents.
As far as the Polar Blair's Den website, I've set my
sights on the Music Department! That should be online by March,
all bright and shiny and new with many new additions! Right now,
the
only feature online in Music is Gayle Caldwell. And this will be
redone as well. CHECK HER OUT!
I'm also working on an Animals Department and Cars Department.
One of the things I can tell you about the Cars Department is that it
WILL have a feature on the Batmobile from the 1966 TV series of
"Batman". Cool! Also, expect some new add-ins to the
already existing Departments. VISIT POLAR BLAIR'S
DEN!
