Guns 'n' Roses- Welcome to the
Videos (1998, Geffen): Approximately 75 minutes.
This is probably the best video release for Guns 'n' Roses you'll ever
find. More than any other video presentation, THIS will tell you
what Guns 'n' Roses was about. I think it's great that they put
all of their music videos (13) in one set. They're shown in order
of release. You can really see the history of the band in this
DVD; the rise and fall. In the early videos you can see the band
liked music more. As time went on, the band became more
socio-political and the music took a back seat. By the end, they
were more concerned about being "odd" so they could stay on top.
The last video, "Since I Don't Have You", is very strange but part of
the band's history and worth seeing at least once. Most fans are
going to enjoy the early videos best. You just can't beat the
"Appetite for Destruction" era! Videos include: Welcome to
the Jungle, Sweet Child O'Mine, Paradise City, Patience, Don't Cry,
Live and Let Die, November Rain, Yesterdays, The Garden, Dead Horse,
Garden of Eden, Estranged, Since I Don't Have You.

60's Pop Rock
Reunion Live! (2004, VCI/Eaglevision): VERY
RECOMMENDED! Approximately 82 minutes. This is
incredible! PBS and Time Life got together to host this special
music event in Cleveland, Ohio (2003). The selection of artists
is awesome! There's The Buckinghams, Chad & Jeremy, The Grass
Roots, Herman's Hermits with Peter Noone, Tommy James & the
Shondells, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, Mark Lindsay, and, at the
end, all groups get together on stage to help Tommy James sing "Mony
Mony".
All the artists are just as good musically as they
ever were. It's also amazing that all the guys seem likable and
really do enjoy being there. This DVD is an absolute must-have
for anyone who enjoys rock 'n' roll from the middle 1960s.
Noticably missing from this DVD is an interview
segment with Peter Noone. What the heck? I really enjoyed
him in this program and would love to hear what he had to say.
All the other acts were represented in interview segments except
Herman's Hermits.
It's also important to note that Mark Lindsay is
here WITHOUT Paul Revere & the Raiders.
I can think of many other groups from that time that
would have been great to see in this show. Hopefully there will
be other 1960s rock 'n' roll get-togethers made in this fashion.
They could do concerts like this on a regular basis for many years!
