About This Album

This album was a long time coming, and Gayle wanted it to be just right.  It is a "solo" album in the truest sense of the word.  True, she has great musicians (Alex De Grassi, Norton Buffalo, and others) as backup, but she is the chief songwriter and chose all of the selections herself.  She performs long-awaited recordings of legendary songs she wrote for Frank Sinatra ("Cycles") and Nancy Wilson ("Quiet Soul").  Most of the Gayle-penned songs on this disc, however, are new compositions.  If you love "Cycles" and "Quiet Soul", these new songs are really just a continuation of that same feeling...that same sound.

Gayle is very selective with the songs she covers, and she has to do them in her own style.  Anything less wouldn't do.  "Home on the Range," and its reprise, are interesting interpretations of the tune.  Both of which are highlighted by the harmonica musings of recording legend Norton Buffalo.  In the reprise, he does a stellar imitation of Western star Walter Brennan.  Other favorites of Gayle's that she had a chance to permanently preserve on plastic for all of time are "You Are My Sunshine", Al Jarreau's "Heart's Horizon", and "Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream".

Liner Notes

Running through the chapters of my life are a few themes with their not-so-always ordinary variations.  For me, love, the giving and receiving, is the most resounding.  And there is the ongoing desire to live vitally, and seek Peace.  Through all runs the underlying current of music.  Wonderful, magical, instantly communicative music.  I'm grateful to have you share in this magic.

On this recorded disc, All is One, I have included eight of my compositions, six of them newish, two rather well known.  "Cycles", first recorded by Frank Sinatra, has been covered by over 180 musical artists.  "Quiet Soul" was originally recorded by the exquisite jazz singer Nancy Wilson.

Of the remaining selections, "Home on the Range" and "You Are my Sunshine", are personal lifelong favorites arranged to suit my taste and current times.  "Heart's Horizon" is a touching composition by Al Jarreau, J. Graydon, and R. Goodrum which Jarreau recorded some years back.  I had not known of this wonderful song until it was suggested by a friend who quite knows my musical inclinations.  "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream", a song made famous by the folk group The Weavers, rings as true today as it did when written in 1950.  It also rings my heart to sing it.

A small aside: You may notice on the CD's programming that "Home on the Range" is reprised.  As the special 13th number this rendition is mostly the same as the first.  However, do listen and enjoy the narrative which is courtesy of harmonica virtuoso Norton Buffalo and his impression of the late actor Walter Brennan.
