Polar Blair's Thoughts on the Artist

About the Artist:  Brave Belt was a band put together by Randy Bachman after he bowed out of Guess Who.  Despite excellent work, they had very modest success.  It wasn't until the band changed its moniker to Bachman-Turner Overdrive that they started getting the acclaim they deserved.  Actually, the self-titled debut album of Bachman-Turner Overdrive was going to be called Brave Belt III.  But since Brave Belt and Brave Belt II didn't fare too well, the band decided on the new name and it worked.  The Bachman part comes from the last name of brothers Randy, Robbie, and Tim.  Turner comes from bassist/vocalist C.F. Turner.  And Overdrive was taken from the name of a popular truck driver's magazine in 1972.  MORE COMING!

Polar Blair's Thoughts on the Artist:  People that don't know what they're talking about like to say that Brave Belt and Bachman-Turner Overdrive were radically different.  They weren't different at all.  Brave Belt II was certainly not different than early BTO.  I actually like all phases of Bachman-Turner Overdrive.  They survive personnel changes better than most bands do...musically, at least.  But my favorite material of the band is NOT what you hear on the radio.  If you want to hear the real good stuff, you've got to listen to the albums.  It's a shame "Hold Back the Water" and "Little Gandy Dancer" aren't radio staples like "Takin' Care of Business" and "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet".  I don't think a lot of people realize that BTO is one of the hardest, heaviest bands in existence who could blow heavy metal players out of the water.  They're hard rock.  Real rock.  With all the intensity of groups like Mountain and Blackfoot.  By the same token, they can also play the sweetest, softest ballads and most radio-friendly rock you'll ever hear.  But the hard-driving stuff is what I like best.
