Laurel & Hardy Film Series:
Be Big
Back to
"Laurel & Hardy" Main Page
Be Big (1931):
It's got a good cast and great dialogue. The
only problem is that they stretched out one routine for almost the
entire length of this lengthy short (about 27 minutes). At first,
it's funny to see Laurel try to remove Hardy's tight boots. But
after a few minutes it just gets tiresome and you wish something would
happen.
The general
plot idea of
this is a lot like their later feature "Sons of the Desert"
(1933). Laurel & Hardy want to go to a party, so Hardy feigns
illness. While the wives are away, the boys plan to go to the
party. But L&H struggle with Hardy's tight boots, leave too
late, and are caught by their wives.
The
actresses that play their wives are stunning. Both of which
start out in the film sweeter than sweet, but when they find out about
the boys' scheme, get storming mad.
