Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975):  Like so many of the Godzilla movies, the general ideas are cool.  The execution...not always so great.  But this is an enjoyable film, nonetheless.  As far as the human characters go, I really like Katsura Mafune, played by Tomoko Ai.  I don't usually pay much attention to the human characters of Godzilla, but Tomoko did a wonderful job of creating a sympathetic character that looks good and that we can care about.  She also wore a number of interesting outfits throughout the show.

The concept of this Godzilla movie is great.  It's a direct sequel to "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" of 1974.  Mechagodzilla got wasted, right?  Godzilla ripped off his head and threw it into the ocean.  The rest of the mechanical monster's body blew to smithereens.  Aliens come to this planet, apparently a different set of aliens from those that brought Mechagodzilla in the first place.  They want to rebuild Mechagodzilla to kill Godzilla, then destroy Tokyo, and ultimately take over the world.  So what do they do?  They hire a disgruntled human scientist named Dr. Mafune.  Said doctor was dismissed by the scientific community for his belief in Titanosaurus, a gentle dinosaur he believed was in the ocean, and a great many other scientific faux pas.  So he dropped out of sight, making the world think he was dead.

Mafune's daughter Katsura, always his assistant, joined her father in aligning with the aliens.  Katsura, however, did not make the world think she was dead.  But only Katsura and the aliens, not her father, knew of her dark secret.  Years before she had been electricuted in one of her father's experiments.  The aliens with whom Dr. Mafune would later join took her body and brought her back to life.  But now she was no longer human, but a cyborg.  Being a cyborg, she had to follow THEIR rules.  But she was always at battle with her humanity.  The aliens made Katsura's brain a remote control for Mechagodzilla.  So in the climactic scene where Godzilla fights Titanosaurus and Mechagodzilla, it is really Katsura who is maneuvering the mechanical beast!

As usual, everything falls apart for the bad guys.  Godzilla wins and stomps off into the sunset!

HOW WAS MECHAGODZILLA & TITANOSAURUS STOPPED?:  Godzilla, once again, ripped off Mechagodzilla's head.  He then threw the robot in a hole where he zapped him with his radioactive breath and blew him up.  Titanosaurus, after a heavy pummeling, was blasted over the mountains into the ocean by Godzilla's breath!

FUN FACTS:  This was the last of the original Godzilla movies.  The next Godzilla film, which would restart the legend, was made in 1984 and called "Godzilla 1985".  This was also the last film where Godzilla was portrayed as a hero.  From 1984 and on, the mighty monster has returned to his original "bad, brainless monster" roots.  A lot of people have assumed that Toho Productions was ashamed of their "hero" Godzilla.  I actually think making him a hero is the best thing they could have done.

This film was originally released in 1975 Japan as "Mekagojira no gyakushu".  It was not released in the USA until March of 1977.

Other titles for this movie include:  "The Terror of Godzilla", "The Escape of Mechagodzilla", "The Escape of Megagodzilla", "Revenge of Mechagodzilla", "Monsters From an Unknown Planet", "Monsters From the Unknown Planet", and "Mechagodzilla vs. Godzilla".

Mechagodzilla Mechagodzilla
Mechagodzilla Mechagodzilla
Mechagodzilla= The mechanical brain sequence is something different from the previous Mechagodzilla movie.  Kind of cool, really.

Titanosaurus
Titanosaurus= He IS ugly.  Titanosaurus is not the most interesting of Godzilla monsters, but not the worst.  He's just another big reptile.  What I find surprising is that he's so tough.  Throughout the whole movie, the bad guys were saying he was just a lesser monster to Mechagodzilla, that he would just "soften up" Godzilla and get killed in the process while Mechagodzilla would finish off Godzilla.  Heck, Titanosaurus put up a greater fight than Mechagodzilla, and he was the last to be killed!
