About These Films:
The first movie is awesome, and is still one of Jim Carrey's best
movies. I like the second movie well enough, but it definitely
wasn't as good as the first. It stinks
that Courteney Cox's character of Melissa Robinson isn't even mentioned
in the second movie. She was pretty important in the first.
In the third movie, we discover that Ace and Melissa eventually married
and produced a son: Ace Ventura, Jr.
Call me crazy, but I actually like the third
movie! I like "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective Jr." better than the
second movie. Josh Flitter is a good child actor, anyway, and he
sparkled in this show. It sucks that Jim Carrey wanted no part of
another "Ace Ventura" movie, but I think they carried on the saga
well. If you're familiar with the Ace Ventura character, you can
believe he'd get lost in the Bermuda Triangle. It wasn't a lousy
way to write out Ace, Sr. As a matter of fact, it would make
things rather interesting if Ace, Sr. ever returned to the
series. It would be cool to see an Ace Ventura Jr./Sr. team-up!
"Ace Ventura" had the potential of becoming a really
great franchise, but when Jim Carrey bows out of a role it's rather
hard to replace him. The same basic thing happened to "The Mask"
and "Dumb and Dumber". A cartoon series of Ace did air on CBS for
two seasons following the second film. I never cared for the
cartoon. The animation is pretty choppy, and the humor of Ace
doesn't really transcend well into kiddie shows. For instance,
much of the first film's humor is fairly adult with a lot of sexual
innuendo. The "Jr." movie was meant to be a family movie anyway,
so that was able to work.
