Wall Street
Wall
Street
- Every
American has heard of Wall Street, the
most popular street in America, maybe even the world. But how did
"Wall" get into its name. Long ago, free-roaming hogs in New York
City were notorious for rampaging through the precious grain fields of
colonial New York City farmers. The Manhattan Island residents
decided to stop these hogs by building a long, permanent wall on the
northern edge of what is now Lower Manhattan. A street came to
border this wall and was named, simply enough, Wall Street.
