Film Fatales: Sala
"The Phantom" has to be one of
the
best adventure movies ever! The femme fatale of Sala, played by
Catherine Zeta-Jones, is one of the key ingredients to this
movie. She's interesting (a female pilot in the
1930s...practically unheard of back then), she's exotic (her dark looks
and her darker, kinky pilot outfit), and so, so catty! There
seems to be a bit of cat-like jealousy towards the rich, pampered
heroine Diana Palmer. Plus, she knows how to shoot a gun and beat
someone up. But she isn't absolutely evil. In fact, Sala
has a change of heart later on in the movie and becomes a good
girl. Basically, she does bad things because it pays well.
But she knows money isn't everything and does have some
standards. This is good for the heroes, especially when they're
dealing with a mad-man bent on world domination. Sala is the type
of role that Catherine Zeta-Jones is best at and should do more
often.
