About This
Series:
"2000 AD", from
which this series stems, is a rather monumental series. It came
from the British comic publisher IPC, in February of 1977. In
1987, the title was sold to the Fleetway publisher. They
published it until 2000. Strangely enough, the title switched
hands in 2000 to the publisher Rebellion Developments.
Being a weekly comic, it is one of the few comics in
existence that has passed the 1,600 issue mark. To say the
creators have a hectic publishing schedule is putting it mild.
"2000 AD" has been a bouncing board for a number of artists and writers
that have achieved international fame. However, the series is
most popular for bringing us the character of Judge Dredd.
The printing rights to "2000 AD" has been doled out
to a great many sources. The UK publisher Quality Comics put out
the monthly series, "2000 AD Presents". Most of the stories in
"2000 AD" are of the science-fiction realm. The series does,
however, experiment with other genres such as Western on occasion.
As with any anthology series, some stories are hits
and others are misses. The best-liked and probably best-done
stories are those that have anything to do with Judge Dredd and his
companion characters, like Judge Anderson and the Psi Division.
Issues:
#11: February,
1987. A 52-page issue that spotlights the Judge Anderson
character. Judge Anderson is a spin-off character of the popular
Judge Dredd. Unlike Dredd, Anderson is a member of the Psi
Division, an elite group of Judges that uses their various psychic
abilities to preserve justice. The Judge Anderson story, and
pin-up, are the best things in this issue. I love her
character! She's sexy, tough, and every bit a woman! The
character concept of Anderson and the Psi Division is even better than
Judge Dredd! It's certainly a bit more elaborate. They
should make HER into a live-action film.
In this untitled story, Anderson follows a demon
called Gargarax who has taken a young boy into a dimension full of
demons and darkness. This boy somehow holds the key to the evil
beings bringing hell on Earth! The action is great and I love
Anderson's dialogue. She's drawn very sleek and sexy and is an
overall appealing character. Special mention goes out to artist
Brett Ewins. Writer Rick Clark also deserves worthy mention.
