About This
Series:
This is Marvel's
second "What If?" series. It follows the same principle as the
first: What if already-established superhero sagas were given a special
twist? This series was great for two reasons. One, each
issue was a stand-alone story. Two, the series spawned some
really neat concepts. Personally, I think this was just a way for
Marvel to test out new story ideas on audiences. If readers liked
a certain story, the same basic story could be used, with different
character names, for new ongoing series'.
Issues:
#113: October
1998. What if, instead of Doctor Strange, Tony Stark became the
Master of the Mystic Arts?
This is cool. Tony Stark uses his powers of
sorcery and armor technology to fight the evil Dormammu. It's
like a cross between Iron Man and Doctor Strange.
It's a great story that doesn't end in tragedy,
which is always good. Doctor Strange stays in the Dark Dimension
with mate Clea, while Tony Stark returns to Earth. Dormammu was
defeated, but anticipated to return to the Dark Dimension in months or
years.
