About This
Series:
This is one of the
many Amalgam titles, joint published by DC and Marvel. It crosses
the characters of DC's Demon and Flash with Marvel's Ghost Rider.
The first Amalgam event happened near the end of the
big, trumped-up comics event of "Marvel vs. DC" in 1996. The
first twelve Amalgam titles were released in a single week, temporarily
replacing both publishers' regular releases. Half the comics were
published by Marvel, and half by DC. A year later, the stunt was
repeated and, again, with twelve issues. Later, both publishers
collected their issues into trade paperback editions. One-third
of the twenty-four Amalgam comics published had fictitious fan letters
that helped give a larger background on the stories and to give an idea
of what might happen in future issues. "Fans" hometowns were
often fusions of existing American cities.
Issues:
#1: April,
1996. I wish Amalgam comics wasn't a hoax, because this was a
good issue, and could have inspired a mini-series at the very
least. The character of Speed Demon is a cross between DC's Demon
(Etrigan) and Flash, and Marvel's Ghost Rider. It draws
references from DC's Green Lantern titles, as well as Marvel's
Fantastic Four and Spider-Man titles. The name of the character
is cool, as is the idea of the character.
