About This Series:

Sleepwalker is one of those superheroes that started in the 1990s that just didn't enjoy the long-lasting popularity of colleagues like Spider-Man, The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, or X-Men.  He's an interesting character, certainly entertaining, but in the 1990s superhero comics really bit the dust in sales.  Superheroes that had been around for decades are the only ones who fare well today.  This is a shame, because there are a handful of really great superhero characters, like Sleepwalker, that came out in the 1990s that are almost completely dismissed by their own company!

Sleepwalker was created by Bob Budiansky.  Bob wrote all but two of the issues in the 33-issue run that lasted from June 1991 to February 1994.  There was also a Holiday Special.  Sleepwalker, as the character is called, is also the name of his race.  Sleepwalkers are an alien race that inhabit the minds of intelligent beings.  The Sleepwalker that inhabits Rick Sheridan's mind is a bit different, however.  When Rick sleeps, the Sleepwalker comes out and fights evil.  Rick, himself, is a college student majoring in film studies.

The villains in this comic series were mostly original and exclusive to Sleepwalker; something that was NOT the case in most Marvel comics of the period.  Sleepwalker WAS paired up with other Marvel heroes from time to time, though; in his series, and in others.  Hobgoblin is one notable villain that was not an original character, being borrowed from the Spider-Man titles.  8-Ball is probably the best-liked and coolest Sleepwalker villain.  He's the only one to have somewhat survived the series and appeared in a 2005 issue of the "She-Hulk" series.  Cobweb, however, was the major villain in the series.

Sleepwalker was a character with a very in-depth plot that was surprisingly easy to follow.  It didn't confuse the heck out of you as you read it, and you could pick up on what was happening with any issue.  I think Sleepwalker would make a remarkable live-action movie.

Issues:

#22:  March, 1993.  Sleepwalker fights Hobgoblin, 8-Ball, and Cobweb.  8-Ball is the most interesting villain.  He looks so goofy, but it's one of the coolest villain concepts Marvel had in a long time.  His costume and equipment was based on the game of pool.  8-Ball's head is, indeed, a giant 8-Ball.
