About This
Series:
This was a
one-shot trade paperback featuring Marvel's antihero, The Punisher, and
DC's legendary crimefighter Batman. It is a follow-up to the
trade paperback "Batman/Punisher: Lake of Fire". In the previous
book, Punisher was pitted against the short-lived Jean-Paul Valley
incarnation of Batman (the psychotic Batman with the futuristic
suit). Although this book has nothing to do with "Lake of Fire"
and is a stand-alone work, Punisher does make a few references to that
earlier story. In this book, Punisher rivals the classic Bruce
Wayne incarnation of Batman.
Issues:
Punisher/Batman: Deadly Knights:
October 1994. This is awesome! I think a lot of
people had been anticipating seeing a comic with Punisher against the
"real" Batman, and in this book they got their wish. It was very
well done. Whenever publishers do joint publications, they pretty
much ignore their respective "universes" or "realities", if you will.
Punisher is in Gotham City to take down his mortal
enemy Jigsaw. Batman patrols the city to find his enemy Joker,
who happens to be working with Jigsaw on building a major crime
syndicate. Punisher and Batman end up fighting each other so much
that both supervillains escape their wrath. The quarrel between
the two heroes pretty much ends in a draw, with Punisher leaving Gotham
City in pursuit of the psychotic Jigsaw.
What I like about this story is that Punisher has
his sidekick Microchip, and Batman has his sidekick Robin (and Alfred
the butler, of course). I've always felt that, in the comics for
sure, neither hero has much to offer if they don't have their sidekicks.
The story is solid action and a very easy
read. Nothing high brow or profound. Punisher and Batman
are two very good characters to team together in comics.
