About This
Series:
It's a Spider-Man
title in disguise. Why did they call it "Marvel Team-Up" and not
something like "Spider-Man and..."? My guess is that Marvel
wanted to cover their bases. If the popularity dropped in
Spider-Man, they could easily replace him with another character and
still call the series "Marvel Team-Up". Fortunately, that never
happened. There weren't many issues that didn't feature
Spider-Man.
Every month, Spider-Man teamed up with another
character (or set of characters) from the Marvel Universe to fight
evil. This first series of "Marvel Team-Up" was well-received and
ran for a healthy 150 issues, from March, 1972 to February, 1985.
When this series was cancelled, it was replaced by the awesome "Web of
Spider-Man".
Issues:
#79: March,
1979. Spider-Man and Red Sonja. The spirit of the barbarian
heroine possesses the body of Mary Jane Watson (Spider-Man's
girlfriend), even changing Mary Jane's appearance into that of the
statuesque, bosomy, sword-slinging babe! Spider-Man and Red Sonja
team up to take down a centuries old demon. Once the enemy was
defeated, Mary Jane turned into herself, again. I like Red Sonja
and Spider-Man comics, so it was fun to see how they brought these two
entirely different characters together in one story.
#91: March,
1980. Spider-Man and Ghost Rider. Villain is
Moondrake. Awesome story! Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze
version) is possessed by the evil sorcerer Moondrake. Spidey
investigates. The two heroes clash for awhile, until Ghost Rider
is snapped out of his spell. Then they take out Moondrake.
