About This Series:

As far as I'm concerned, Marvel has only one GREAT cyborg character: Deathlok.  Death Metal is pretty well done, but not so endearing.  Death's Head I and II have their moments, but are largely uninteresting.  Deathlok is the only one that can truly be considered a hero.  He's also the only one that really has any pathos...any humanity.

The Michael Collins version of Deathlok that appears in this series was the THIRD incarnation of the superhero character.  The first Deathlok appeared in "Astonishing Tales" #25 (August, 1974).  John Kelly became the second Deathlok, and first appeared in "Marvel Comics Presents" #62 (November, 1990).  Interesting enough, this character was later retooled and renamed Siege.  Siege first appeared in "Deathlok" (Series 2) #19 (January, 1993).  Michael Collins, Deathlok 3, made his debut in "Deathlok" (Series 1) #1 (July, 1990).

Professor Michael Collins was African-American and quite the pacifist.  He worked for the Roxxon Oil company's cybernetics division Cybertek.  When he decided to make a stand against the greedy company's wrongdoing, they turned him into a hideous killer cyborg named Deathlok.  Collins, now Deathlok, was able to assert his mind over the mechanical body and escape his captors.  Now he is a freelance superhero.  On top of everything else, Michael STILL tries to be the family man he once was, having a wife and two kids.

Deathlok really doesn't like violence and rarely resorts to it, despite his scary appearance.  However, when the situation calls for violence, he is quite good at it.  He has a gun that only he can fire.  That, plus 900 pounds of metal and super-strength make him a force to be reckoned with.

Issues:

#21993.  Deathlok encounters a new villain called Tracer in a double-length adventure.  This all happens while our hero is trying to go to the hospital to see his sick baby daughter.  Tracer sees the error of his ways and realizes that Deathlok is not the enemy.  And Deathlok's daughter lives.  All good things.

A short Siege story follows where the angry cyborg hero, previously Deathlok 2, blows up Iraqi soldiers while trying to save his old Vietnam War vet buddy.  The buddy dies, but Siege kicks a lot of a** along the way.  It's awesome!

A third short story, featuring Deathlok again, pretty much just gives you a "day in the life" account of the hero.  Funny, action-packed, and touching.
