About This
Series:
DCs
"specials" were typically created just to generate "collectible", #1
issues for people who didn't know better. A special usually
didn't spawn second or third issues, and definitely not with any
regular publishing schedule. There really wouldn't be anything
special about them, besides the fact that you get a double-length
story. Wonder Woman was no exception. This "series" was
limited to a one-shot.
Issues:
#1: 1992. This
special came out at the time of Wonder Woman's second series. If
you don't know, certain elements of the Wonder Woman character were
changed from the first series. The biggest difference would be
that now, she can fly. That's the one change I always felt was
best. I didn't like it that Wonder Woman could not fly on her own
in the first series.
Supervillainess Cheetah (Barbara Minerva) has been
kidnapped in the country of Pan Balgravia by an evil cult. Wonder
Woman, the kind person that she is, goes to her rescue. Wonder
enlists the help of the shady assassin Deathstroke, the
Terminator. In the DC Universe, Deathstroke is kind of a villain,
but not really. He's more of an anti-hero, or a "bad boy".
The alliance between Wonder Woman and Deathstroke is not an easy one;
it's not easy for anyone to be a partner of Deathstroke.
Wonder Woman is knocked out by the bad guys at the
end of this issue. Deathstroke is seen with new allies, ready to
take out the bad guys. The story is concluded in "Wonder Woman
(Series 2)" #63.
The story is awesome and the artwork is great, but
Wonder Woman is not drawn as sexy as she should be. I don't think
it's a matter of artistic ability, just preference. I still think
Jill Thompson did a great job on the art, but I like Wonder Woman to be
kitchier. Story by William Messner-Loebs.
