About This Series:

The tradition with comic publishers is to make an annual special based on already popular monthly titles.  Such was the case for Robin.  Robin's very own, regular series was a long time coming.  He had to wait from his "birth" in 1940 until 1991 to get his first, limited series.  Robin had three limited series before he finally got his own regular series.

This annual series stars the Tim Drake version of Robin, who was the third major incarnation of the character.

Issues:

#3:  1994.  This issue is an Elseworlds annual.  DC's Elseworlds stories took familiar character ideas and put them in strange times and places.  In this story, set in 1700s Japan, Robin is a ninja.  He was adopted and trained by a samurai Batman.  When samurai Batman is killed by an unknown enemy, ninja Robin solves the puzzle of this mystery.  Joining him is the ninja Catwoman.  Cool enough story, but is totally ruined by the ending: Robin kills himself!  I don't like that.  Found it unnecessary.  Other than that, good story and art by Chuck Dixon and Enrique Villagran, respectively.
