About This
Series:
Amazing as it might seem, this Justice League title lasted only 17
issues, from Winter of 1990 to Winter of 1994. It would seem
natural that a "Justice League Quarterly" series would be an instant
hit and run for years. However, this was not the case.
"Justice League Quarterly" did solo stories on
characters from the Justice League. It's one of the few instances
that Justice League ever attempted an anthology book of individual
superhero tales. I'm not a great fan of Justice League comics,
generally, but I thought this was genius. Some very excellent
comic stories were produced for this series.
It's a shame "Justice League Quarterly" did not last
longer, but hopefully the idea of presenting individual stories of the
league members will live on, and be experimented with in comics for
years to come.
Issues:
#13: Winter,
1993. The major feature of this issue is also the best
story. Captain Atom and the sexy superheroine Maxima star in
"Love is War". The writing by Kevin Dooley is top-notch, and the
artwork by Greg LaRocque is stunning! I think this is the sexiest
I've ever seen the Maxima character in comics, and she's an extremely
sexy character to begin with...a statuesque, almost Amazonian redhead
from outer space whose primary function is to mate with men she
considers fine breeding stock. Her crush on Superman was her
introduction into the comic world. In this story, she is
infatuated with Captain Atom. The cover art by Linsner is equally
outstanding. Maxima learns the hard way that she can't have
everything she wants by force. In the meantime, a past suitor
from outer space named Ultraa fights Captain Atom to win Maxima for his
bride. This is just a great superhero story that I fully enjoyed.
I don't care about the other features as much.
There's a rather obscure story with Power Girl, and another with Praxis.
