About This
Series:
This
was a one-shot trade paperback jointly published by DC and
Marvel. It features the greatest cosmic villains of both
publishers, Darkseid (DC) and Galactus (Marvel) going head to
head. Galactus wants to eat Darkseid's planet of Apoklips.
This story is set when Silver Surfer served as Galactus' herald (before
he became a good guy). So Silver Surfer takes on all of Galactus'
enemies in this adventure. To beat all, DC's cosmic heroes, The
New Gods, actually step in to save Darkseid! We get to see Silver
Surfer and Orion beat the crap out of each other.
This is a cool story, and you don't have to be a
regular follower of any of these characters to get into the story and
enjoy it. As a matter of fact, this would be a great comic to
start off with if you're trying to get into the Silver Surfer
comics. You get to see Silver Surfer when he was a bad guy (under
Galactus' mind control), and find out about his back story. Even
though this comic was released in 1995, and the Silver Surfer had been
around for three decades before, this trade paperback makes a great
precursor to everything Silver Surfer (after the origin story, of
course).
Issues:
Darkseid vs. Galactus: The Hunger:
1995. Excellent art and story by John Byrne. John does it
again in this outstanding action tale that successfully ties together
the heroes and villains from two comic publishers. I just can't
say enough good things about it.
