About This Series:

I really love this series.  "Tarzan vs. Predator" is one of the most unique and coolest ideas for a match-up ever!  This would make a helluva movie!  The premise is very simple: Tarzan crosses paths with the Predators.  The violence is not-so-graphic for a Predator story, although it's definitely implied.  This mini-series is really more story-based than violence-based.  It ran for four issues from January to April of 1996.

This comic book series is meant to be a sequel to Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic novel, "Tarzan at the Earth's Core".  Tarzan revisits this odd place, a throwback to the prehistoric era, but now meets the dreaded Predator headhunters.  At this point in the Tarzan saga, our hero is civilized and articulate.  His wife, Jane, is blonde and Tarzan himself sports an unusually dark skin pigment.  I've often wondered if the colorist meant to make Tarzan look this dark.  Walter Simonson wrote this series, and Lee Weeks did the art.

"Tarzan vs. Predator" is a much more reasonable pairing for the Predator monsters than most attempts.  "Aliens vs. Predator" is the most popular pairing, and Predator has since been put into one-shots or mini-series with just about every major comic book superhero.  A coupling with Tarzan makes sense.  It's set in Africa (like the first film) which is one of the hotspots for Predator activity.  Plus the creatures are headhunters, only alien.  Tarzan's battled many kinds of savages in all media.  I don't think the concept of "Tarzan vs. Predator" is as far out as "Batman vs. Predator" and so on.

    This four-issue mini-series is a must-read!
