About This
Series: This series began as an anthology series of
assorted jungle stories. "Jann of the Jungle" was the breakaway
character, and the series was soon named after her starting with #8
(November, 1955). The series lasted through #17 (June, 1957).
Jann was an attractive character, and a bit unique among the vast ocean
of Sheena-like clones to come out in the Golden and Silver Ages.
Her hair was jet black, and she seemed to have some kind of non-White
ethnicity. Jann's ethnicity is unclear, but she does have light
olive skin. She was created by writer Don Rico and artist Jay
Scott Pike.
Like most of the jungle girl characters from this time, the artwork was
stellar and the stories were charming.
