About This
Series:
White
Heat is an interesting heroine that, sadly, just didn't take for AC
Comics. Shannon Fleming was a sexy secret agent with beautiful,
long red hair and a white streak in the right forelock. Her
"uniform" had a matching red and white color scheme. White Heat
is either late twenties or early thirties. She works for an
agency known as The Strategem, its headquarters hidden beneath the
United Nations building.
In this two-issue mini-series, White Heat uncovers a
modern-day Nazi plot! To make things even more intense, she finds
out that Adolf Hitler is still alive and wheelchair bound! She
successfully ends their mad scheme, but if Hitler lives or not is not
resolved. The writer was leaving this open for another adventure,
but, unfortunately, that did not come to pass.
Ed Stehlin was the writer. Don Secrease did
the art. They did a fine job, but there are two things they could
have done to make these comics even better. For one, the writer
tries to dazzle us with too much of the militaristic, spy lingo.
There is a bit too much of that, and it's not needed to make the story
intelligent or legitimate. A lot of that could have been
dropped. Let the action speak for itself. Secondly, White
Heat was purposely designed to be a sexy character, yet she doesn't
really do anything sexy. They should have played up her sexiness
a bit. It would have helped to shape her personality and make her
more interesting.
This was a fine AC series and deserves another
attempt. What I like best is that it's strictly an action comic,
not a superhero comic. White Heat is one of the few
non-super-powered action heroines in comics. It's just like
watching a big-budget action movie.
Issues:
#1: 1986. In
full color! We find out a little about Shannon Fleming's
background, and there's a lot of intense spy-like stuff going on.
This first issue just sets up the "real" story, which we see in the
next issue. It's quite an attention-getter.
#2: 1987.
In full color! White Heat (Shannon Fleming) finds out the
original Nazi party is plotting world domination once again. Even
worse, Adolf Hitler is still alive and heading this evil scheme.
White Heat saves the world, but it's uncertain if Hitler lives or
dies. We last see him having a heart attack. This would
have been a great story to see continued.
