Jeep: The Jeep vehicle was
first known as "g.p." standing for "general purpose", but the common
slang for this vehicle became "Jeep", named during WWII by American
soldiers after the character Eugene the Jeep in the "Popeye" comic strip. Eugene the Jeep, with powers of
teleportation, was a well-liked character by the public in 1941 and,
like the vehicle, shared the ability to "go anywhere".
