The VERY FIRST BEVERLY HILLBILLIES
BEAUTY (after Elly May, that is)! Marie was the Drysdales'
maid. Ms. Steffen set a
precedent, because she was the first in a long line of actresses who
would play pretty, feminine characters to compliment the adventures of
the Clampett clan. In her first appearance, Marie was basically
just a walk-on character to show us that the Drysdales had a
maid. It was her second appearance in "The Servants" that she was
actually involved in the storylines, where she and the Drysdales'
butler were sent to work for the Clampett household, which ended up in
disaster. In her third and final appearance, we see Marie as
an object of affection for Jethro Bodine, which is something that was
done many times over with many actresses.
