Played "Mademoiselle Denise"
episodes:
"Duke Steals a Wife" February 20, 1963
"Duke Becomes a Father"
April 17, 1963
Her two
"Hillbillies" episodes were actually two of the last things she would
ever do in television or film. Mademoiselle Denise is an unusual
female
character in "Hillbillies" for several reasons. First of all, she
is a beautiful woman who is not an employee of Drysdale's bank (most of
the hot-looking women in the series were secretaries). Second,
she is foreign (French to be exact; there were
very few beautiful women in the series whose characters were meant to
be foreign). Third, and perhaps most important, is that she is
one of the few women in the series that becomes a serious love interest
for Jed Clampett. It is a pity she was only in these two
episodes, because it would have been interesting to see their
relationship develop. The comedy between Jed and Denise comes
from two sources: the language barrier and Jed's family.
It's plain to see that both Jed and Denise are fond of each other, but
neither knows the other's language. When Jed gets himself
"slicked up" for the occasion Granny, Pearl, Elly, and Jethro tease him
mercilessly.
I like Denise because she was nice and not going
with Jed for his millions. She was wealthy herself so there was
no need to go after his money. Jed was starting to learn French
in Denise's second appearance, and it would've been interesting to see
how Denise and Jed introduced each other to new things.
