Lola Albright
Played "Gloria Buckles"
episode:
"Granny's Spring Tonic" March 27, 1963
It might seem strange, but there were two
characters in "The Beverly
Hillbillies" named Gloria Buckles. Lola Albright's was the
first. Bettina Brenna's came later in 1969...over six years
later! They were both very different characters, but oddly enough
had the same name! Granted, both Gloria Buckles were secretaries
at Drysdale's bank. However, Lola Albright is much shorter
compared to Brenna who is quite tall. Also, this Gloria is a
golddigger after Jed's money. Brenna's Gloria Buckles was not a
golddigger and, in fact, had no interest in Jed Clampett or his
millions. In fact, Brenna's Gloria Buckles is not even supposed
to be the same character as Albright's. In 1969, when the
Clampetts meet Gloria at the bank they do not know her. This
later Gloria Buckles was actually romantically interested in Jed's
friend from the hills, Shorty Kellems.
In the episode "Granny's Spring Tonic" Lola Albright
is a secretary at Drysdale's bank who is very familiar with Jed
Clampett's file and tricks Milburn Drysdale and Jane Hathaway into
letting her go to the Clampett estate to get him to sign important
documents. What they do not know is that this frumpy -looking
young secretary is in reality a knockout beauty who plots to marry into
Jed Clampett's millions. Granny and Pearl do not like this
strange woman getting too fond of Jed because she is so young, and they
try their best to discourage her.
Lola Albright was a big-name actress at the time and
got special guest-star billing in the opening credits.
