About This Animal
BUGS: An insect that looks like a twig is called a walking
stick. It looks so much like a twig that when it is sitting on a
branch, many birds will pass close by without seeing it. It can
also change colors. When it hatches in the spring, it is green
like the new leaves. As it grows older it turns brown...the color
of the branches where it lives.
MA! IT'S RAINING EGGS!: When female walking sticks lay
their eggs, they just let them drop to the ground. Often, many
walking sticks will lay their eggs at the same time. If you are
walking in hte woods on a sunny day and hear something that sounds like
rain, it won't be rain. It will most likely be a shower of
walking stick eggs. Cool, huh? But in a gross sort of way.
