About This Animal
- There are two kinds of rhinoceros, white and
black. They actually only differ in size, not skin color as the
name would suggest. In actuality, they both have grayish skin.
- Where did the confusion start? It went back
to the time when Dutch were starting to settle in east Africa.
They called the larger type of rhinoceros "weit", which meant
"wide". But English settlers took this to mean "white". So
if there is a white rhinoceros, there had to be a black. And
guess which type got called black? You guessed it: the
