About This Animal
- WHY NOT SHAKE HANDS?: Prairie dogs
kiss! Why? It's a family thing. Each prairie dog
family group has its own territory. It's bad manners for a
prairie dog to go into another family's yard. This can cause
fights. So when prairie dogs meet, they bare their teeth and
press their mouths together like a kiss. It's one of the ways
they recognize members of their own family.
- HIS BARK IS WORSE THAN HIS BITE: A prairie
dog will utter a sharp, dog-like bark when threatened.
