About This Animal
- WITH BELLS ON: When walking in the woods
through bear country it is a good idea to wear bells and whistle.
The bear won't run away, but will hide behind trees until you pass
by. Bears like their privacy and try to keep away from people.
- A LONG WAIT: Bears don't go to the bathroom
while they're hibernating. Why not? About a week before a
bear curls up for a long nap in its den, it stops eating. By the
time a bear starts hibernating there is nothing left in their
intestines and the bladder is empty. While the bear is sleeping
its body does make a little urine, but that small amount is used by the
bear's body so it doesn't wet its bed.
- NYAH, NYAH, GRIZZLY!: Black bears can climb
trees; something grizzly bears cannot do.
