Quinn was the leading lady in this episode,
opposite Roger Moore, and she couldn't have been more thrilled at the
time. Even today, this show ranks as one of Quinn's most favorite
working experiences. She truly enjoyed working with Roger Moore
and would love to get in touch with him, again. If you can help,
please CONTACT
ME. Quinn also enjoyed working with Lois Maxwell in this
episode. Both Moore and Maxwell would work with each other
regularly, starting in 1973, in the James Bond film series. Roger
Moore, of course, played James Bond and Lois Maxwell, the secretary
Miss Moneypenny. Moore, Quinn recalls, was "very professional,
and a gentleman".
The Saint
was basically James Bond by a different name. The characters are
essentially the same, although The
Saint doesn't operate much with gadgets and supercars. He
does, however, share the company of many beautiful women. Quinn
O'Hara was one of them. She played poor little rich girl Kathy
Allerdyce in this episode, and for all intents and purposes, she WAS a
"Bond Girl", although Quinn never gained the official distinction.
Funny story, Quinn recalls how she spent time with
Lois Maxwell off the set, because they became good friends at the time,
and she took Quinn to where they were filming the latest Bond
movie. Quinn, and just about everybody, would agree that she was
a shoe-in. If it were any other Bond movie, she would have
been. However, the film they were making was "You Only Live
Twice", primarily set in Japan. There was no call for redheads in
Japan. Dang. And after this episode of The Saint wrapped up, Quinn fell
out of touch with Maxwell and lost her James Bond connection. So
Quinn never did get to be in a James Bond film, and she would have
liked to have been in one. Poor agent representation was another
reason she never got another shot at it.
This episode of The
Saint is absolutely outstanding, and it has a very strong
following with fans of Quinn's work. People just really love this
show and the part she played. Lois Maxwell plays Quinn's
stepmother and the two are always at odds. Maxwell is the
antagonist and, it turns out, is the one behind Quinn's abduction and
the plot against her father.
