This was Quinn's smallest of four appearances in
"Burke's Law", her character simply called "Receptionist". This
was the last episode of "Burke's Law", and as Quinn said, "Gene Barry
wanted to fit in as many of his favorite recurring actors as possible
in this last, one-hour episode of the series." He did, indeed,
end it with a bang, with actor Wally Cox (voice of Underdog) as the
killer.
"Burke's Law" ran from 1963-1965. The show was
retooled for the 1965-1966 season, titled "Amos Burke: Secret Agent",
and changed Burke's profession from police captain to secret
agent. It was a very obvious move to cash in on the James Bond
spy film phenomenon. His Rolls Royce was bulletproofed, the cast
was entirely changed (save for Gene Barry), and the series was a
flop. Not a successful transition. A revival series of
"Burke's Law" ran from 1994-1995. Gene Barry reprised his role of
Amos Burke, now a police chief, (what? he was demoted from spy?) and
Peter Barton played his son, Peter. The 1963-1965 series was
cute, but camp. The 1994-1995 series was just terrible!
Peter Barton, although a good actor, was way, WAY too young to play
Gene Barry's son. He should have been about 20 years older to be
more believable. And the stories had no connection to
reality. The original series did a better job of keeping things
not so absurd.
