I think this is one of Quinn's best
characters! She played the hot, Southern vamp Lulu Mae
Deveraux. Quinn is great at Southern dialects, and this role is
very different from her other outstanding character of hillbilly girl
Sally Lou in Burke's Law.
Where Sally Lou had more of Tennessee type twang, Lulu Mae was
definitely Louisiana.
Donald O'Connor was the star of this episode.
Dick Sargent actually played a character called Dick O'Hara, which I
find amusing. Special mention must go out to Lisa Mitchell who
played the delightfully dingy Pattikins Ryan. The whole cast was
good, really, and this was a funny episode in the anthology series.
Chrysler Theatre was one of the last big anthology
series on television. Bob Hope hosted, and sometimes starred in,
these one-hour shows that varied from comedy, drama, mystery, action,
or any blend of the above. This episode was straight
comedy. Donald O'Connor is a brilliant inventor who gets into
quite a mess when all these different, attractive women (Quinn
included) come on to him with ulterior motives.
Those shorts! My goodness! I don't know
how she gets into them, but she wears them well. Lulu Mae is one
of those women that would make you go "Ga! Ga!" when you first
see her around a corner. Lulu is an extremely funny, sexy
character and we soon learn that this isn't her debut at this sort of
thing. And yes, Quinn liked working with Donald O'Connor.
And she was a great fan of Bob Hope!
