Biography:  There are just some actor guys you LIKE to see play bad guys, and Matthias Hues is one of them.  He's an interesting character by himself: big, imposing, long-haired, and German.  Hues has been in a great many shows, and it's visible onscreen that he likes what he's doing.  Even though he's best-known as playing the "heavies"...the "bad guys"...Hues has done some good guys.

The movie that really started giving him a following was "I Come in Peace" (1990).  Opposite action star Dolph Lundgren, Hues played the evil alien drug dealer Talec.  This is a good movie, and the first time we saw Dolph Lundgren fighting a villain of equal or greater size and might.

Hues worked hard and steady in movies and television for years.  "Bounty Tracker" (1993) presented him as the nearly unkillable villain for star Lorenzo Lamas.  "Fists of Iron" (1995) just gave him a really cool character in Bragg, the appropriately-named fighter nemesis for Michael Worth.

"Alone in the Woods" (1996) is an interesting movie for Hues.  A "Home Alone" set in the woods, this family film allowed Hues to do comedy as one of the two crooks, and he's actually quite good at it.  It would be nice if he could do a lot more of these films.  It certainly helped to open his scope as an actor.  He was finally able to break out of the evil killer typecast of his action movies.

From the middle 1990s to today (2009), Hues is doing a lot more movies in the genre of science-fiction and fantasy.  In 1997, he starred in an episode of TVs "Conan" where his character battled the famous barbarian.  His character, Savann, loses (go figure), but he certainly gave Conan a challenge.  Like this role, Hues keeps getting more and more diverse in his work.  As usual, he still plays mostly bad guys, but the projects are getting more varied and interesting.  For instance, he has even done an episode of the children's show "Power Rangers" in 1999.

I received an e-mail response from Matthias Hues in 2002 and he seems like a genuinely nice guy.  I wish him all the best in present and future endeavors!
