This is an odd little
western that follows the misadventures of four backwards people as they
flee to Mexico. Linda has second billing under the legendary
Mercedes McCambridge (voice of Pazzuzu in the "Exorcist" film).
Linda plays Julie Ann, a beautiful, yet mentally retarded young girl
who married into the evil Hagen clan. What I found interesting
about this film is that there is NO protagonist; no one you can really
call a hero. It's a good enough show, but could've been made
better. Color would've made it a lot more watchable, as most of
the filming appears dark in black and white. But there were parts
that dragged with extended dialogue. This wasn't the fault of any
of the actors; the director should've caught it. The actors were
actually good for the parts they were playing.
The premise makes an interesting concept. However, if you plan to
seek out this very rare film, the biggest treat is Linda who gives a
funny, yet sexy performance as the childlike Julie Ann. For rock
'n' roll enthusiasts, Frank Zappa composed the soundtrack. The
theme song you keep hearing throughout the movie is called "Star in the
Mornin'".
Sultry Julie Ann, putting the make on Kirby the hunchback.
