This is a movie that
should be shown in history classes. It's a psychedelic drama that
shows you all the ups and downs of hippie culture in the 1960s.
Set in all places, hippie central: San Francisco in the Haight-Ashbury
district! It's very well-filmed and SO colorful. The music
is just as great as you'd expect with top groups The Seeds and The
Strawberry Alarm Clark. For the most part, this film is very
coherent. There's assorted amounts of oddness, but you can make
it all out. It's a Dick Clark production (yes, THAT Dick Clark)
so you know it's made on a higher order. Jack Nicholson stars as
the likable hippie Stoney, leader of the band Mumblin' Jim. With
him are buddies Ben (Adam Roarke) and Elwood (Max Julien). Susan
Strasberg is Jenny, the leading lady of the picture, a deaf runaway in
search of her brother Steve (Bruce Dern) who she learns has become a
religious fanatic by name of The Seeker. Dean Stockwell plays
Dave, the cynical longhair friend of Stoney.
Linda plays hippie girl Lynn, member of the Mumblin' Jim band.
She really doesn't do much in this picture. You see her a handful
of times, and she talks a little bit. She was given a special
"Introducing Linda G. Scott" credit in the opening sequence.
Funny, considering that she was already in many shows BEFORE this film
was made. But that isn't the first time something like that has
been done in credits. She looks good as a hippie girl.
