Biography:
Mainly known as one of the regulars on "SCTV". Flaherty had a lot
of funny characters here and there, but his most-used characters, like
SCTV President Guy Caballero, anchorman Floyd Robertson, and talk show
host Sammy Maudlin I didn't like at all. They were rather dry,
unfunny characters. His best work was as Big Jim McBob in the
Farm Film Celebrity Blow-Up skits, Ari the Greek guy, sleazoid Vic
Hedges, Oscar Wilde, Arthur Leggett, and, one of my top favorites, the
"Hats of the West" skit where he plays a Clint Eastwood type character
to perfection. Floyd Robertson had his moments when he slammed
idiot co-anchor Earl Camembert, and sometimes as kiddie show character
Count Floyd, but for the most part they didn't do much.
Flaherty had some entertaining roles in films as the doorman in "Who's
Harry Crumb?" (1989), the TV movie "Family Reunion: A Relative
Nightmare" (1995) as the father, Kevin Dooley, Mr. Barry in "Snowboard
Academy" (1996) [THAT was a good movie!], as the jeering, troublemaking
fan in "Happy Gilmore" (1996), Father McNulty in "Detroit Rock City"
(1999), and Owen Fergus in "National Security" (2003). He's done
many, many shows and works steady.
