Biography:
Charles
Lane is one of the most famous character actors EVER to appear in
movies and television and has a much longer list of appearances than
most lead actors. He was in three Blondie movies, #1 Blondie, #7 Blondie Plays Cupid,
and #9 Blondie
in Society.
His most famous role was that of railroad man Homer
Bedloe on TVs "Petticoat Junction". He appeared so frequently he
could almost have been considered a regular. Homer's constant
scheming to shut down the Hooterville Cannonball train became the
source of much story material.
Charles Lane played a lot of extremely unlikable
characters and it became his niche. However, he did play many
"good guys" in film and TV appearances, too. In reality, Lane was
a good, likable guy who found work well into his eighties. In an
interview made shortly before his death, Lane called his character of
Homer Bedloe "a creep", but he liked him!
